IXSS Mk.2 by Ergrassa IXSS Mk.2 by Ergrassa
Eior Arms/Lharsh Steel IXSS Mk.2 "Ashearra" (Aedar historical: killer, political assassin), UFA Codename: "Squid"
Type: Unclassified submarine

IXSS Mk.2 was designed in early 2480s for corporate purposes: Eior Arms had lack for a cheap versatile medium-range starsystem defense platform for. Two key requiremets were low visibility and rocket torpedoes armament. The original solution was to build a plasma-propelled submarine with zeppelin-like hydrogen tanks. Low visibility was reached by atmosphere diving capability, possible due to unit's near zero buyoancy and powerful (but non-economic) engines using atmospheric gas as fuel. Another interesting feature is self-deployment: unit can transport itself from transport ship just like a conventional orbital panzer. In 2493, "Ashearra" Mk.1 succeeded final certification tests and reached RTM stage, but Eior Arms decided to delay project due to low defense budget funds. After 21 years, in 2514, project was reopened and after some changes due to new materials availiable, "Ashearra" Mk.2 made it first flight on August 21, 2516.

Mass production started in 2518. First 230 submarines for Eior Arms (Mk.2A) came with 12 250-mm torpedo-launchers and Frigate-class sensor station. When new Shaitass Federation Navy concept was published, 450 more units (Mk.2 with 16 universal missile/rocket torpedo pods. In 2523, Technocracy of Eior got about 120 of them, 90 more went to Lharsh Trade Republic. All Eior and Lharsh units were rearmed to Mk.3E, key changes are: capital-class radar station, universal CDC (Combat Data Center) by Shelorr Computers, one Omni turret spot (usually not used). At the time, most of units are used in Eior cluster solarsystem defense forces.

Another project based on "Ashearra" is Scandinavian ZPG 232 "Njörðr" starsystem defense platform. License for Mk.2A was bought by Saab in 2519, after some constructional changes and enhancements, Saab AB began to produce ZPG 232 with 10 launcher-modules, 1 425-mm railgun and original sensor system. The platform is in service by Norden Örlogsflotta from 2520.

This is awesome! So is this a submarine or what? I know you said it's a submarine but how is it also a "static atmospheric platform," and what is that? Sounds cool though.

well, it's question of terminology. Submarines are «static platforms», so if count dense atmosphere as an ocean, the Mk.2 is some kind of «submarine»

Ashearra could be classified in two ways, at least:
- Submarine, by UFA Naval Fleet classification, due to its transition method is floating over atmospheres with density >600 KPa
- Aerospace static platform, due to its deployment method by dropping from orbit and opetational altitude - it's used mostly in meыosphere and exosphere..

Oh so it's for different planets, not just Earth. Then the names make more sense.
