Assuming the rod above and behind the cockpit, is an inflight refueling probe (it's a f***ing stupid place to mount a cannon, anyways, due to the chance the cannon blast will shatter the windscreen or otherwise damage the cockpit, and the chance muzzle flare may blind the pilots), it should be bent away from the fuselage. That provides more clearance for the drogue and hose, making it easier to catch, as well as reducing the chance an errant drogue may hit the cockpit area and cause damage.
