Developed in 2445, M-101A1 is most used weapon at civilivan spaceships. M-101A1 is gas-operated rifle, it can be feeded by default 2-liter balloons or by external tanks. Perforator's M7-R rocket-propelled shells are absolutely effecitve in space and in atmospheres. Nowdays, in 2522, M-101A1 is a cheap, powerful and effective civillivan weapon.
You'd be surprised just how real that thing actually is. Rocket-powered bullets capable of use underwater and in space for handguns and rifles have been around since the 1960s. :3 [link]

In all honesty? I think your rose tinted glasses are cracked.
My suggestion actually comes from paintball guns, if the cartridge is integral to the operation of the weapon, putting some sort of stock on there to shoulder it more securely would greatly increase the effectiveness of the weapon.
Grip looks like it would be fairly uncomfortable. Take a look at handgun grips, you'll see that most of them are effectively straight, maybe with just a slight amount of palm swell. Very AR15 looking grip on this one, Tango Down, Ergo, and Magpul all make popular grips that are quite comfortable. That might give you some good ideas.
Final suggestion is the mag release would be better forward of the magazine (so you don't have to go around the magazine to release it for a reload). This is more of a HK type configuration. Or on the side of the weapon like on the AR15/M16. It's actually somewhat unsafe to have the magazine release near the trigger, especially if you use the same motion to release the magazine as you use to pull the trigger!
Good work. Don't see suggestions like that from me unless I already like what you've done.

I love it. One comment else, change the wording of the rounds "fiery" to "Incendiary", which is the official terminology for a weapon round which causes fire or combustion upon impact.
Beautiful picture. I couldn't have done better. In fact, I don't think I could have done it at all.

I like how you integrated the technical papers into the 3D. Brilliant.

Now rise
Throw away
The charade of your life
Let the flame of my heart
Burn away
Your complacence tonight
Fearing no one.
